Reflections on sharing my first video and what it means to take courageous action
Transcript
This is me doing the thing that I've been wanting to do for a really long time, that I've been talking about doing, but shying away from. And it's a big thing for me to be visible. It's a big deal for me to be doing this.
I'm someone who gets nervous speaking up on Zoom calls. Is that just me? So, there's no one in the room with me. There are however many faces on my computer screen, and I'm nervous to talk to them. I'm nervous to be seen, to be heard.
But what I want for my clients, what I want for people, generally, is to do the things they really want to do. To be bold. To take courageous action. And this is not about not feeling fear. We're human, we're going to feel fear. When I post this video, I will probably feel very sick.
But as I say that, what I know to be true right now is that it's actually not really the goal. The goal is not really the numbers of people that see this or don't. The reactions they have or don't. What this is about is the experience, the feeling of doing something despite the noise in my mind, despite the noise in your mind that would have you stay tiny, stay invisible and stay afraid.
So what does that tell us about when we take action, when we do things that we feel inspired to do, despite the thinking that would have you do otherwise?
We don't have to believe the thoughts and judgments in our minds. We don't have to take them into consideration when we feel an urge to do something that lifts us, that gives us a rush, that feels like a big thing to try.
If it feels like it's filling you up, if it's a lift in some way, if it makes you take in more oxygen, that is something that's right for you. And you will learn so much about yourself by doing it, by doing it anyway. Regardless of the outcome, it's the doing of that is so empowering and thrilling.
